Chris Young

Meet the Pastor & Family

Pastor Chris Young was called to LHBC in August of 1997.  Chris was raised in Hawesville, Kentucky (about 25 miles from Owensboro).  Bro. Chris attended the University of Kentucky from 1989 to 1992 where he earned a degree in Business Administration.  During his third year at U.K. Chris felt the call of God to the ministry.  After graduating from Kentucky, Bro. Chris entered Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and went on to complete his Master of Divinity in Theology.  In May of 2021, Chris completed his Master of Theology (Th.M.) from SBTS in Biblical Theology.

While a student at U.K. Chris met his future wife, Amanda Moncrief.  Amanda lived in Corbin, Kentucky at the time and was pursuing her degree in accounting.  Chris and Amanda were married in 1994 and moved to Louisville so that Chris could complete his seminary training.  Amanda graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in accounting in 1999.  Chris and Amanda have two children, Michael, born in 2003, and Katie Grace, born in 2008.

God has allowed Bro. Chris and his family the privilege of serving at LHBC for many years.  The congregation has become like family.  In his free time, Bro. Chris enjoys everything about U.K. athletics.  He is also a follower of politics and the United States Supreme Court.

About LaGrange Heights Baptist Church

LaGrange Heights Baptist Church is a traditional, theologically conservative congregation located in Oldham County, Kentucky.  LHBC was founded by the late Bro. Henry Beach, former pastor of Ninth & O.  At LaGrange Heights we focus on the preaching of the Word of God and the development of Christians in their walk with the Lord.  LHBC is a close-knit fellowship and although it sounds cliché, there is very much a “family” atmosphere within the church.

We are Baptist in polity and biblical in our practice.  We believe that salvation comes only through faith in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.  We believe in the inerrancy of the Bible.  We believe the importance of worship in the local church.  We believe in the imminent return of Christ, first in the rapture of church and finally in His glorious Second Coming.

At LHBC, we still have evening services.  At LHBC, we still call it “Sunday school.”  At LHBC we still sing from the hymn book.  And at LHBC we still have the occasional fellowship meal and gospel concert.  Most people who attend LHBC find the preaching strong and the fellowship sweet.
